About Yoga at Solace

Yoga is the union between body and mind.  We practice Vinyasa yoga, which is a branch of Hatha that means "flow".  Our kid's yoga classes are modified to enhance the child's enjoyment of the class, because we all know that if the child isn't having fun their yoga practice won't benefit them nearly as much.

Yoga has infinite benefits to offer those who practice: enhanced strength in all muscle groups, improved concentration and focus, increased flexibility in all muscle groups, self confidence...and the list goes on.  Children can experience all of these benefits in a safe and fun way!  We strive to offer a non-competitive, comfortable atmostphere for children to be their best selves!

What you need to know before class:

Sign up: Our class sizes are very small.  It is recommended that you sign up for each week's class in advance, by calling or emailing the office to ensure your child's place.  If you plan to attend every week, you may sign up as far in advance as you would like.   Classes are filled on a first-come, first -serve basis.  Please note that while it is, of course, beneficial, your child is not required to attend class every week.

Mats: We do have yoga mats available in the studio for your child's use that are sanitized by the teacher after each class.  You may also bring your own mat.

Clothes: Special clothes and accessories are unnecessary for yoga.  We do recommend that the clothes your child wears to class be comfortable and relatively form-fitting, as loose pants and shirts can get in the way and potentially cause accidents (tripping).  We also recommend that pants are not too long.  The studio is kept warm so ensure that your child will not get overheated.  Types of clothes that generally work well are t-shirts and tank tops (that aren't too baggy), shorts, and sweatpants that aren't too long or baggy.

Water: There is filtered water available at the studio.  We recommend bringing your own bottle or cup for drinking to conserve paper cups, but there are paper cups available if you forget.

Eating before class:  We recommend that yoginis eat 2 or more hours before class, to prevent cramping and tummy aches.  After class, they may eat as soon as they're hungry.

Yoga and religious beliefs: It is important to note that yoga is not a religion, and although it is often associated with Buddhism or Hinduism, it does not reflect any religious beliefs.  Yoga is a sort of guide to living your life in the best way possible.  It complements anyone's religious beliefs.  We will never discuss religion in class.

Yoga is not always easy: Many poses your child will learn in class may be challenging, and they might not be able to complete the pose right away.  This is perfectly normal!  Please support your child's efforts and encourage them to keep at it.  Yoga teaches self-discipline and confidence; imagine the rewards when your child is able to do a pose they've been working on for weeks or even months!

KID'S & FAMILY YOGA
Family members may share punch cards for any classes that are the same price; all family members participating in Family Yoga may share a punch card, and Kid's and Family punch cards are interchangeable.
